Thailand attempts to develop an H1N1 vaccine

As theN1H1 virus continues to sweep across the globe, Thailand has stepped up its battleplan to curb the introduction of more infected people coming into the Kingdom. The Thai Department of Disease Control has just announced a new screening policy that will monitor air passengers for flu-like symptoms in the airplane and at international airports country-wide.

The World Trade Organization (WHO) has agreed to finance a US$2 million flu vaccination project in hopes of discovering an H1N1 vaccine. There are currently eight suspected cases of H1N1 infection in Thailand. Unfortunately, there have been no real advances in the technology used to detect this infection. The usual thermo scanners utilized during the SARS outbreak are again in use at certain airports.

There are different ways people from different cultures react to possibly life-threatening events: Hysteria, cooperation in finding a solution, humor, and in games and simulation. Take the 911 tragedy which has had documentaries and games made to depict the tragic events. Well, guess what. There is now a game called SwineFighter. The object of the game is to move your mouse across a map of the world inoculating pigs in order to stop the spread of swine flu.

Did I mention that these are green flying pigs? Gives more support to the theory of this being a genetically engineered virus.
